3 Ways to Gain and KEEP Customers Using Postcards

Monday, April 28th, 2008

By Brett Curry In todays competitive (sometimes cutthroat) marketplace, savvy business owners need to constantly look for ways to get and, more importantly, keep their customers. When used properly postcards offer a great opportunity to do both. 1. Mail systematically to a targeted database of prospects. Most people who use postcard mailings as a way to acquire new customers mail to a list once and then stop. Its far more effective (provided that your postcards have an enticing offer, and provided that you are mailing to a group of ripe prospects) to mail regularly to the same group of potential customers. Think about it this way. How many times have you received something in the mail or seen an ad on TV and thought, thats a good idea, I need to look into that. Only to forget about it the next day and never take action. Thats just human nature. And thats why its better to mail systematically and regularly to a group of prospects than it is to just mail once or twice. It may take 3 or 4 contacts with a customer before they are willing to do business with you. 2. Systematically contact your customers. Once a business gains a new customer the tendency is to do nothing but hope that the customer will come back. Bad idea. Its far better to be proactive and mail monthly, weekly, quarterly, etc. to your current customers offering them special incentives, additional products, or just to simply thank them for their business. Its amazing what kind of growth you can achieve if you get even a small percentage of your customers to make an additional purchase or two throughout the year. 3. Allow your customer to be a hero. One great way to build a relationship with your current customers and potentially gain new customers is to send them a postcard with a special offer that is only good for previous customers or friends and family of previous customers. When you send a postcard with a coupon or special offer on it, state very clearly that your valued customer is free to use the coupon for themselves or they can pass it on to someone else. This will make them feel good, and will potentially build a repeat purchase, or develop a new client. Its like killing two birds with one stone. Postcards can quickly and inexpensively communicate your message to prospects and consumers. When used as part of an integrated system, post cards can be a very powerful tool to generate new customers and then ensure that those customers keep coming back to you over and over again. On-Hold Messaging: Making the Most of a Captive Audience

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

By Stephanie Ciccarelli According to a recent AT&T study, more than 70% of business calls are placed on hold for an average of 45 to 60 seconds each. 60% of the callers placed on hold hang up, and 30% of those that hang up never call back. The opportunity to reach out to your customers is now! They are a captive audience, and are eager to hear what you can do for them. While they are waiting, which for some business could be upwards of 10 minutes or longer, you need to keep their interest, keep them happy, and most importantly, retain their call to avoid losing them and their confidence before you can even meet their needs. By making good use of your on-hold messaging, you will be able to: * Seep your callers interested * Increase satisfaction levels regarding their experience with your company * Introduce new products or services for potential cross sells * Provide additional information about your company in a friendly manner * Instill trust and assurance that you’ll be with them shortly * Retain your callers while on-hold * Save money by retaining the caller, eliminating the need for them to call again To really capitalize on your on-hold messaging, alternate courtesy messages with marketing messages. Here’s a sample of a brief On-hold Script. On-hold Messaging Script: Courtesy Message: Thank you for calling Extreme Sports Gear and Mountain Bikes. We’re glad that you called and appreciate your business. In respect of your time, a customer service representative will take your call shortly so that you can get back to the great outdoors. Music in between messages for 30 seconds or so appropriate to your listening audience. Marketing Message: Are you at our website right now? If so, click on the “Special Offer” advertisement on our home page to take advantage of our Online Summer Sale! Anything listed on our website is 25% off if purchased online. Get in the groove of Summer early and save! Depending on the average time that your customers are on-hold, your on-hold script length will vary. For an average system where customers are on-hold for 1-3 minutes, it’s wise to have at least 2 courtesy messages and 2 marketing messages, each message timing out to precisely 30 seconds (:30). Music should play in between the messages for 30 seconds (:30) This will result in 2 minutes of voice-over and 2 minutes of uninterrupted music play, giving you total of 4 minutes of on-hold messaging. For systems supporting callers on-hold longer than 4-5 minutes at a time, make sure that your material is kept fresh for your audience, with at least 4 different courtesy messages and 4 different marketing messages. To accompany the voice-over, music is often used as a secondary track in a voice-over recording. Music can vary throughout or remain true to a theme. Music should reflect your business and your customer base. If you’re servicing an extreme sports crowd, the music might reflect that culture and encompass a touch of rock, soft punk, or alternative music genres. Capture this opportunity by sharing your message while your customers wait on-hold. With a powerful on-hold recording and a professional voice talent to deliver your message, youll be well on your way to converting callers into buyers. About Voices.com Voices.com is the industry leading service that connects clients with professional voice over talents and voice actors. Radio and television stations, advertising agencies, marketing executives, casting directors and voice talent agencies rely on Voices.com to easily search for and hire language service providers such as translators, narrators and professional voice over talents. What Credit Checks Reveal - “Credit Checks under the Microscope”

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

By Julian Thornton If you have applied for interest free loans, credit cards or mortgages, chances are youll know what a credit check is and what it involves. Even if you have undergone a credit check in the past, it is a good idea to familiarise yourself with the process, so you can understand what is involved and do what you can to improve your credit situation. What is a Credit Check and when are they Conducted? A credit check is a process a prospective lender will take in assessing you for loan suitability. Obviously if a lender is going to lend you money, they will need to take a close look at where you stand financially. Questions relating to your payment history will need to be answered for the lender to make a decision. You will be subject to a credit check if you are applying for any sort of finance from a personal loan or pay by the month insurance through to a store interest-free deal or mobile phone contract. You more than likely will be subject to two credit checks, as prospective lenders will compare credit records from different sources. What Information is Accessed? When a credit check is conducted, prospective lenders will information from a credit reporting bureau or agency. Information contained in the report includes your name, date of birth, social security number, residential addresses (your current and past ones), employment history, employer details, current income, and your payment history for your debts and loans. Negative things a Credit Check may Reveal The main negative aspect a credit check will reveal is a tendency for non-payment or late payment of any loans or debts. If it is shown that you dont have a good history when it comes to paying your debts, you may have your application for finance rejected. If the application is rejected, you may be offered a loan for an amount less than the amount you applied for. Can I obtain a copy of my Credit Check? Absolutely! Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act 2003, any person may obtain a free copy of their credit check once each year from a recognised credit reporting bureau. The top credit bureaus in Australia are Trans Union, Experian and Equifax. If you have been rejected for finance, you can request a copy of your credit check, prove your situation and request your report. You can also purchase your report for your own records. By keeping a track of your credit, you can ensure you maintain good credit and benefit from it. Julian Thornton is a Melbourne, Australia-based mortgage and debt analyst specialist. Till We All Come In The Unity Of The Faith

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

By Anthony Smith Till we all come in the unity of the faith. From the beginning of man upon this earth, we have seen at no time, unity in government, social values nor faith in one God. There are many gods and lords many upon this earth. This started many years ago because of the dissatisfaction of man with God and His statutes and laws. The dissatisfaction of man with truth, righteousness and Holiness. With This dissatisfaction came; The Twelve Immortals of the Grecians, Dinah of the Ephesians, and of the image(Meteor) which fell down from Jupiter, Baal of the Phoenicians, Juno and Zeus of the Romans, Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva of the Hindus, cows, monkeys, snakes, lizards and even rocks(Meteorites), and all the major and minor gods of mans imagination. Within these religions, and many others not mentioned, there is no unity of the spirit of man with the true God, Jehovah.(The Great I Am, Lord, God, Jesus Christ.) Act 17:22-23; Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. Eph 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith. Unity; Unity of faith, is an equal belief of the same truths of God, and possession of the grace of faith in like form and degree. Unity of spirit, is the oneness which subsists between Christ and his saints, by which the same spirit dwells in both, and both have the same disposition and aims; and it is the oneness of Christians among themselves, united under the same head, having the same spirit dwelling in them, and possessing the same graces, faith, love, hope. Knowledge; A clear and certain perception of that which exists, or of truth and fact; the perception of the connection and agreement, or disagreement and repugnancy of our ideas. We can have no knowledge of that which does not exist. God has a perfect knowledge of all his works. Human knowledge is very limited, and is mostly gained by observation and experience.(Websters.) Unity of faith and of Knowledge in one true, living and eternal God. This unity comes only from the faith and belief in Jesus the Christ, whom many associate and compare with God Himself, for God and Christ are one. This undeniable truth comes from of faith in God and His word. Not just of the New Testament written after the assention of Christ back to the Father, but from the original Old Testament Scriptures. These scriptures herald the coming of the Messiah and or Jesus to this earth. A savior in the flesh , preordained and prophesied in Scripture. The fulfillment of these prophecy’s were fulfilled in Jesus. Many other religions comment on unifying mankind under one god, many use force, some subversion and some by deception, and others just don’t care about unity but self enlightenment of themselves.(These are the ones that hide themselves on high mountains and caves seeking the everlasting(so called) truth of the universe. Till we all come in the unity of the knowledge of the Son of God, the Messiah.Eph 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; The Messiah; Isa 53:2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. Can we denie the prophecy’s of the Old Testament, can we say that, the man Jesus of Nazareth did not fulfill all these things within himself? Can we say that there is another that we wait for that will fulfill, judgment and unity upon mankind? Or will you seek pleasure and salvation in another? Do these dumb idols, that you worship, teach unity or devision, love or hate, life or death, righteousness and justice or bondage? Unity of the faith cannot come by deception, illusion, the working of wonders, miracles or by force. For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.(Heb 2:4) Was not Jesus confirmed, by God, to be His light to a dark world, as the Savior of man, as the Messiah? If this is true, then we must conform ourselves to His image, which is the image of God. We must conform to one Faith, one Lord and one baptism, which we all are to be baptized in His name. God is never contained, never represented by any image made of stone, gold, silver nor wood. Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. So if you believe God then you must conform to His commandments, you must destroy your images of gold, silver and stone, you must not worship any man born of sin nor animal, creature or fish that God created. What of Gods laws? Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God. God is not a God of man made image, so why then do you continue to insist on worshiping them? God is not a rock from the sky, nor of the earth, so why then do you bow down to them? Is not God greater than these things? If your children ask for a fish, do you give them a stone?(Speaking of Spiritual and physical food.) Then why then would God send us, His Children, a rock, or cow or graven images, to feed us? Would He not send us the true living Bread from Heaven, in the form of Himself, Jesus? (For this day have I begotten thee.)Psa 2:7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Eph 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: To be a child of God, we must adhere to the commandments of God. We must become one with Him as He is one with Christ. We accomplish this by grace threw faith in His Son Jesus. Speaking the truth in love, to our friends, family, acquaints and especially the enemy’s of the Cross. We must love our enemies, our neighbors and all mankind, as ourselves. This is not to say that, there is not a time which we must withdraw ourselves from the true enemies of the cross, for there is that time, according to scripture. Christians do not preach hate but rather the truth, in which many are offended. This offence comes from long term indoctrination in lies and traditions of your elders. We must break away from traditions and man made doctrine, that do nothing to unite all in, One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. How To Get A Government Contract (Part 02)

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

By Jim Hart As mentioned in part 01 of this mini series, one of the problems associated with government contracting is the mind-bending quantity of information that has to be sorted through to begin to understand how the federal government initiates contracts for bid by the private sector. The questions are 1) where does the acquisition process begin and 2) how can you keep track of activity in the contracting industry and 3) how do you get involved? The answers are The GSA, the GSA and the GSA. What is the GSA? The GSA stands for Government Services Administration and this agency is the central point for all federal level government contracting. The GSA is a clearing house of sorts that receives requests from and oversees the purchasing activity of contracts in excess of $25,000.00 to ensure the government is getting the best possible pricing and performance from vendors. If you are one of the few people who read this article here is a major key to understanding the federal government contract procurement system: Go to the government links section of our website and click on the link to the GSA website. On the GSA home page you will see an area called: For CONTRACTORS AND VENDORS. Within this area click on the link titled GETTING ON SCHEDULE. Read that brief section and make sure you click on CENTER FOR ACQUISITION EXCELLENCE, which is a free online training course provided by the fed to walk you through the entire contracting process in a step, by step manner. There is no easier way to get oriented to government contracting then what the GSA online campus provides. It is a very intuitive campus-like setting that allows you to select short courses that not only give you the information you are looking for but also award continuing education credits. When you complete a course the GSA awards you a certificate of completion suitable for framing. This is the place to start, period (.) Any other step would be a waste of your time. Once you have completed this course, you will more fully appreciate our government link section. Our site is set up like a dash board with every link you need to access the fed and state governments through direct access to the key websites or through portals that give you access to the data you need. This is a critical resource for any small business and especially if you are looking to get help for contracting or grants. I personally researched and built this page for my own purposes and decided to make it available to people who visit our site because SBS is a total solution for real estate, business, government and web technology to help people like you and those you may know. Our website is my personal real estate and business Frankenstein and has taken on a life of its own. Questions Your Pastor Will Hate - Part Four

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

By Dennis Diehl A Few Questions About the Actual Crucifixion Pastor. Thank you so much for your patience with me. Question. Pastor…Just who was it that carried Jesus Cross? Mark 15:21, Matthew 27:32 and Luke 23:36 all say that someone named Simon of Cyrene helped him with it, but John seems to not know this part and says in John 19:17 that Jesus carried it the whole way himself. I know one can say that they each did a part of it and John is just going for the big picture, but John often seems to no know the details the others did and does imply Jesus was alone in this. Seems important to me. Question. Pastor…these two thieves have always puzzled me. Mark, being the first Gospel and most simple, mentions them but tells nothing of them at all. (Mark 15:27) But then Matthew makes the story more interesting and in Matthew 27:44 has them taunt Jesus to save them all and at least himself. Then the story gets even better in Luke 23:39 by having the one tell the other one to leave Jesus alone and they deserve to die but not Jesus. With this, Jesus promises him that he would be with him in Paradise that day. Or perhaps, he meant he told him that day he would eventually be with him in Paradise, but it sounds like Jesus meant that very day. This story keeps getting better in the order of the writing. Since Jesus didn’t ascend for 40 days, where was Jesus telling this man he and Jesus would go together and when? John and Luke don’t have this detail and John doesn’t even call them thieves. Some say rebels against Rome and run away slaves were crucified, but not thieves as we know them. And Jesus was labeled on the sign, King of the Jews, which seems to be why Rome and not the Jews crucified him….the Bar-Abbas thing remember? At any rate, it always seems like there is an outwardly bad person, like the thief or the Roman Centurian admitting that Jesus is the Son of God and seems contrived. You know, kinda like props in a play. Question. Pastor…Wow, this is good one for you. In Matthew 27:51-53 we see Jesus dies on the cross and there is a great earthquake. If it was this big, how did the city and the temple survive intact as it said the rocks split. That’s a big quake! The curtain of the Temple tore from top to bottom as well. I would think if a curtain could tear that would mean the walls holding it up separated, but the temple seemed fine. Besides, no one else seems to notice this event in the the other Gospels or in history. Question. Pastor….What about these saints who rise from the dead and witnessed around Jerusalem? Again, it is only Matthew that mentions this and this seems like a rather huge event! Why were they called Saints, which is more of what Christians are called much later in the history of the Church? They might have been followers, but Saints sounds like it was written long after the real events. Maybe even longer than just a few years. The graves were opened for three days until after his resurrection, as it says because I know we can’t have the saints rising before Jesus, so were they just laying in the holes for three days alive but couldn’t move? Or if they were just bones and not fresh bodies, didn’t anyone notice the open holes all over the place and think to fill them in? And wouldn’t raised people make a great story about Jesus power all through the New Testament, but it is never mentioned again? And would not raised saints be honored and revered in the early Church and get important positions we never hear about? Or did they die quickly a second time. That would be a bummer I would think after seeing family and friends again. Is this a real story or did only Matthew make it up? Question. Pastor…I am wondering how Jesus is called the Suffering Servant of Isaiah 53 when he really got off pretty easy being on the cross for just a few hours of one day, getting a nice removal by a rich friend and all prepared and buried in new tomb? Crucifixion is a process of days and tens of thousands died terribly by it before Jesus did. They stayed on the cross until they suffocated and then were left for the birds and dogs to eat. Burial was not much of an option or very rare. Jesus seems to get the best treatment in the history of crucificxion, not the worst. Then he is dispatched with a spear thrust, which again, was merciful, not terrible considering how long it could have taken to die. Question. Pastor…as long as we are at it. How is it such a big sacrifice for Jesus to die if he knows that in a short time he is God again? And how is Jesus death such a sacrifice on God’s part knowing that in a very short time He gets his son Jesus back? I have buried a lot of children that are still dead and the parents would not grieve so much if they knew they’d see them again in a mere three days after death. It seems like going through the motions if Jesus and God knew all this, but not a real sacrifice. Doesn’t a real sacrifice stay dead? Now that’s real to me if Jesus stayed dead and did not get to be back with God, for us. Now that would be amazing, but he’s just dead for a short time and then back in business. Maybe it’s me. Question. Pastor…This three days and three nights in the tomb thing has always puzzled me. I thought I had it down pat with Jesus being crucified on a Wednesday and Resurrected on Sunday morning leaving time for the three days and three nights, you know 72 hours. But that still doesn’t work well as it was a Passover thing and not an Easter weekend thing. No matter how you cut it, there are no three days and three nights between Friday afternoon and Sunday morning, no matter if we just do parts. Mark 10:34 says it would be after three days, so that includes them all. Matthew 12:40 says it will be the full three days and three nights, but no account ever gets him there for anywhere near that time. What gives? I like the Wednesday idea with Passover being on a Thursday that week, or First of Unleavened Bread for the Jews, but then even that is debatable. Mark, Matthew and Luke call the meal a Passover, but John says the supper happened before Passover, and doesn’t have any references to bread and wine (John 13). Jesus can’t have kept the Passover before the Passover and as a Passover too as the other Gospels say could he? It’s all very confusing. And even so, this is Passover stuff, not the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Spring Equinox that marks Easter! And what’s with Easter ham? I thought it was Passover Lamb? What’s going on here with the Church? Jesus is not the Ham of God. He is the Lamb of God, or so I thought. It’s all so confusing and I’d think these Jewish men would know how to agree on these simple observances. I won’t even ask about Bunnies and Eggs! Would you give a sermon on this? Oh…sorry, sounded good to me at least. Question. PastorMatthew 27:62-66 tells us that a Roman guard was placed at Jesus tomb to insure that no one stole the body. It’s a good thing they feel down as dead when the Angel showed up. At least they could tell their commander they were knocked unconscious and didn’t know what happened to the body. No other Gospel writer says this and the women dont seem to have to deal with a Roman guard in their trip to the tomb. These guards take money from the elders to say that the disciples came and stole the body. The very thing they were there to prevent. I doubt they would survive, no matter what since this would be such an embarrassment for the Governor. And once again, a great earthquake that rolls stones sideways but does not damage to the city. Question. PastorOk, just who, what kind of and how many men did the women find at the tomb? Mark 16:5 meet one young man at the tomb. Matthew 28:2 says an bright shiny Angel arrives causing the earthquake and opening the tomb and sits on the stone. Luke 24:3-4 says that the women enter the tomb and two men appear either inside or outside the tomb. And in John 20:12 the women dont enter but find two shiny Angels sitting inside. Now come on, they cant be one man, two men, one Angel, two shiny Angels, inside, outside, sitting or standing can they? There seems to be a problem here with both counting and perceiving men from Angels. Cant be all of the above and if I saw an Angel, I would not just forget and call him a man. Question. PastorNow it gets interesting. No matter what happened, it must have been a real shock to these women. But why, in Mark 16:8 we find the women fleeing in absolute fear and telling no one? In fact, the Gospel of Mark really ends with no resurrection account at all! It just ends with the women running in fear and telling no one about what happened. Most scholars say that is where the story ends and the little ending of Mark was added later just because it had no ending. Also, isnt it strange that the Gospel of John has TWO endings? I want to ask you about this later.one Gospel with no resurrection story and one with TWO. Hmmmm. I’ll ask you more about this in a bit. Anyway, in Matthew 28:8 the women run and tell the disciples. In Luke 24:9 they tell the disciples and the rest, whoever that is. And in John 20:10-11 Peter and John race to the tomb, John wins the race but doesnt go in, Peter shows up and goes right in, but Peter is perplexed and John says this is because Peter did not know of the scripture that said Jesus would rise. I find it hard to believe that Peter did not know Jesus said he would rise again do you? This sounds like a political story to me. John knew and Peter was a dolt, but thats what John does to Peter every chance he gets in Gospel. These men leave and then Mary sees two shiny Angels in the tomb. Why did they not appear to John and Peter who just left? It certainly would have helped Peter. I think John is saying, I believe the scripture, Peter is stupid and doesnt and it takes bright shiny Angels to convince women. Ok, just a few more questions about the resurrection accounts. Question. PastorWho did Jesus first appear to? In Mark 16:14-15 it is to Mary Magdalene first. I think she liked Jesus and he her. Youd think hed first appear to James, his brother, or Peter or John. Matthew 28:8-9 says he appears near his tomb but Luke 24:13-15 says it was on the road to Emmaus, a town no one knows what happened to it, but is several miles from Jerusalem evidently. John 20:13-14 has him back at the tomb first. Just seems these four always disagree on events is why I am asking in the first place. It’s not like a car accident at all. It seems more like a play that no one can agree what it was about, when, where or who was in it. Question. PastorI guess I was just wondering who Jesus appeared to? Mark says it was Mary Magdalene and Luke says Mary Magdalene and then the other Mary and then the Eleven. And why all the people with similar names? Hard to keep the Marys apart. Luke says the two along the road who were just folks and not disciples, then to Peter, then to the eleven. And John says to Mary, then to the disciples minus Thomas and then to Thomas later. John would have said , the ten I guess and then the eleven since Judas was out of the picture. Something remember Paul didnt know anything about when he said Jesus was seen by the Twelve? I think he should have just gone to see Mary, his mom, first because she would be credible for sure! The foods that are most famously associated with this event are admittedly geared more towards men and carnivorous choices but, you can find a vegetable or legume on the list too. Some items on the list can be made as unhealthily or healthful as you like by the ingredients you use. Most would agree that the Superbowl is all about food, friends and fun! Okay, Here is my list of the top ten Superbowl foods: 10. Chips, Dips, Salsa and Nuts This is a big umbrella of general “snack food” or ” junk food”. Beer nuts or any kind of nuts are almost a pre-requisite for a Football party anyway. There are some really great appetizers that are now almost synonymous with Football. For example: Nachos - whether you just pour some melted cheese on them or go all out with salsa, guacamole, jalapenos, black olives, refried beans and spiced ground meat these are always a crowd pleaser. Theres also the “old fashioned” Chex mix that is really quite a nice retro snack. Purchase, various Chex cereal flavors, add mini pretzels, some peanuts, melt some butter and honey with some kicked up seasonings mix them all together and spread them out on a cookie sheet in the oven on 350 for 15-20 minutes. Great stuff. 9. BBQ Baked Beans The classic baked bean recipe can take over 24 hours to prepare and serve. It involves soaking the dry beans which takes up most of the time, and marinating and baking the beans in a combination of Molasses, brown sugar and BBQ sauce. It normally has Pork in it too and that adds a really great flavor but, if thats not your bag you can substitute ground turkey or have no meat at all. 8. Steak Tips There are also Turkey, Swordfish and Chicken tips out there too now a days. Whichever you choose, marinating them in a good marinade first is a must. Steak will need the longest in a marinade but, all of them will be great once they are grilled on a nice hot grill. Pair tips with Salad and a mixed rice and you are all set! 7. Sandwiches I prefer the foot long Italian hoagie from the local deli cut up into 2 or 3 inch size sandwiches. Hot peppers are a necessity but should probably be “on the side” for the less inclined. Any kind of sandwiches will work really and Calzones which are not really considered sandwiches are a great choice because they are easy to eat while not sitting down and come in all kinds of yummy flavors. 6. Pizza Well, I had to put it on the list. It is really popular as a football food. Its not truly my choice but, considering that watching football is a male oriented past time and most men are not into cooking, it makes sense that something you can pick up the phone and have delivered within 30 minutes (men are not normally planners either) would be on the list. PS: Anything that can be ordered, created and delivered within 30 minutes is not something I would recommend for adults Childrenokay. 5. BBQ Pork with all the fixins This choice is really for a dedicated BBQer and will take some time to do right but, boy. It is well worth it. You really have to start this menu item the day before you want to enjoy it. It takes a smoker and a pork butt, some good dry rub, a mop sauce (this is important as far as I am concerned) and some good BBQ sauce along with a dedication to the low and slow way of cooking. In addition to the pulled pork, lay out some hamburger buns, home made cold slaw, and some chips and you have the perfect football party meal. 4. Chili This is one of the most versatile and easy one-pan dishes you can make. You can prepare it for a whole crowd using a crockpot and it has so many variations there is bound to be one thats to your liking. Just type in “Chili Recipes” in Google or your favorite browser and see all of the hits you get. Yep, you cant go wrong with a good chili. Make sure to have extra hot sauce for the diehards that insist on kicking it up a notch! 3. Ribs Short ribs, Long ribs, Dry ribs, Wet ribs. There is a whole big debate about the best type of meat to use and the best way to cook ribs that is almost as hotly debated as who is going to win the big game. Two things I can tell you about ribs: 1. They are difficult to cook just right and, 2. When they are cooked correctly they are delicious! My suggestion to you is to purchase some ribs at your best local BBQ restaurant or grocery market and pop them in your oven before your friends arrive, set out your favorite BBQ sauce and pass them off as your own creation. See if anyone figures it out. 2. Sausages, Hot Dogs These may not appeal to those of you that are on a health food kick but, really there have been vast improvements in the hot dog and sausage varieties and quite a few are now more healthy options than other choices. And really, whats better than a sweet Italian Sausage smothered in sauted peppers and onions with gobs of mustard all wrapped up in a bun mummm mummm. You can take a walk at half time to make up for it. 1. Chicken Wings Okay, No surprise here. I dont know exactly how Chicken Wings became the unofficial Football food but, I am cool with it. I have no complaints. Wings are pretty easy to make and you can make small batches at a time which is great if you are not sure how many people will be showing up demanding to be feed on the big day. The secret to great wings is the Wing sauce. There are almost as many brands of Wing sauce these days as BBQ sauce and mustard! That tells a little something about how popular these babies are. Chris McCarthy owns InsaneChicken’s Hot Sauce and BBQ Sauce Catalog. InsaneChicken’s Hot Sauce and BBQ Catalog also has a large selection of Wing Sauce. Education Based Marketing

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

By W. D. Long We are a society of information junkies. We thirst for information every single day. When we consider our own buying habits, where do we go? If it is a big item we might go to Consumer Reports or search for information online. We will certainly go to Google or Yahoo and search for whatever it is we want. One of the very best examples of “Education Based Marketing” is seen at www.askthebuilder.com. That web site is packed full of information on the how to’s of home improvement. People gravitate to vendors who supply the greatest amount of information. A Simple Example: If we were going to buy a pizza and we were standing right in front of two identical pizzerias, side by side, and one of them had a big sign in the window that read: “FREE Pizza Recipe Book,” which one would we walk into first? We would probably all be interested in what ingredients are in the pizza and how the pizza is made. What comes into play here? First of all we probably would never see two pizzerias side by side and we will more than likely NEVER see a pizzeria owner “divulge any secrets.” The fact is, not very many people are going to ever try and make a pizza at home and it will surely never taste the same as it is does when you buy if from your favorite pizza vendor. The pizza vendor could have a business card with his web site address taped to the box with instructions on how to claim your free “Pizza Recipe Ebook.” Of course there are “More Coupons” inside the ebook. Many restaurant owners don’t have much time to spend online. If the owner just had a printed recipe every week, (with his next week’s coupon on the other side) he would create a customer loyalty and a following. All of his customers would look forward to the next recipe and would have to come into the restaurant to get it. Most of us that have an e-mail address have bought something online or subscribed to an e-mail invitation for “specials” that the vendor offers. When we get their e-mail, all it includes is the items they are selling and often times it is quickly deleted. If we were to buy something from the local craft store and they asked for our e-mail address and said: “We will be happy to send you the free “how to project of the month,” along with some coupons. Would we sign up? Most likely we would if we had an interest in crafts. Of course that e-mail is going to include the “Special of the Month!” We might just head right back to the craft store to grab the new set of paint brushes that are on sale. Yes, we are playing in the digital age. That brings up the power of educational ebook marketing. Ebooks are being made all the time and distributed freely all over the Internet. Along with the free information is an opportunity to purchase the vendor’s products or services. Ebooks are easy to make or easy to have made for you. A simple example of ebook marketing is seen at: www.investigate.net The vendor gives away a free ebook that is useful for locating unclaimed funds held by the states. In it, there is an opportunity to buy unlimited access to public databases. Someone who uses the ebook can access it over and over without ever buying a thing. However, if that customer ever needs to find someone or find some secret public record, where are they going to go? The salesman or woman who sells to business owners can be a welcome sight if he or she always shows up armed with some written information or “little known secret” about that particular owner’s business or industry. That information is always given freely without any expectation of a sale resulting from it. In addition, if the salesman or woman took the time to send a one page piece of mail to all of his customers every month with the “Idea of the Month” on how to increase sales, (along with a business card) who do you think the business owner would want to buy from? The mission is simple. Educate your customer every chance you get. Provide the most valuable information you can to your customers. Continue to educate your customer the best way you know how and you will develop a customer loyalty that is worth its weight in gold.
