Relationship Trouble: Lack of Communication

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

By Jeff Herring Lack of communication is perhaps the most common and one of the most deadly forms of relationship trouble. Good communication serves to bring people closer together. When partners consistently fail to communicate well, they slowly become strangers. This is one of the main ways that couples drift from being soul mates to room mates. Often in communication, we think we understand the other person, we respond accordingly, then the other person thinks they know what we mean, they respond, and we are off to the races, so to speak. But really communicating, really listening to each other, involves both slowing the process down and learning new skills. Here’s a simple 4 step process for improving communication between partners: Step 1 - Partner 1 talks about something. Step 2 - Partner 2 repeats what they heard and then asks if they got it. Step 3 - Partner 1 then has three options: - Yes, you got it. - You got one part, and missed this part. - You did not get it at all. You then repeat steps 1 through 3 until partner 2 gets it. Step 4 - When both people agree that the message was received, partner 2 talks about their thoughts and feelings about what was said. Now partner 1 repeats steps 2 and 3 until they get it. And so on. This feels awkward at first. Give it some time because it works. Visit SecretsofGreatRelationships.com for tips and tools for creating and growing a great relationship. Free Gasoline Alternative For Your Family

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

By Charles Neshah You and your ilk have borne the hardship occasioned by gasoline prices stoically while listening to half-hearted promises and attempts at finding alternative and cheap fuel for both domestic and industrial purposes. Obviously, the world economy is driven by gasoline and the oil companies who determine the price you pay for this precious product you use in your cars and other engines. The prices of all the household items and services you buy are also affected by the price of gasoline. Environmental Pollution: The grave impact on the environment by the burning of fossil fuel is of great concern too, and has been debated in several seminars and conferences all over the world without achieving any success as to how best to minimize the use of gasoline to save the planet and mankind. Some countries can’t imagine cutting down on the use they put gasoline. Global warming is now a clich. Deliberate Gasoline Policy: Interestingly, the availability of a natural alternative to gasoline is known to both governments and the industries, but to implement the transition from gasoline to an alternative cheap or even free fuel for all will greatly disorganize the world economy as it is today; and as you must know, the oil companies cannot support their own demise. The Good News: However, the good news is that a way has been found that enables you use for free that natural and plentiful resource that both Governments and the oil companies are concealing. Yes, I am aware that you can now replace the expensive gasoline you are forced to buy on a daily or weekly basis, with a natural free resource. This natural resource is available everywhere you go so you will not have to pay for it, yet you will be able to use it in your gasoline engines much more efficiently and with absolutely NO emissions (pollution)! This information is available online now, search for it and see for yourself; imagine being able to travel as often as you like in your car and never pay for a drop of gas. Neshah writes for your success. Recommended: Never Pay For Gas Again You have a choice TODAY to acquire the knowledge that will enable you save a ton of money over the months and years ahead. PLUS, you’ll never have a need to visit a gas station again. Think about that! How Many Feet Do You Have?

Monday, October 29th, 2007

By Carmel Baird How many feet do you have? Or I should say, how many feet does your sewing machine have? Once upon a time there was a sewing machine with one foot, one foot for sewing a straight stitch. Now there are sewing machines with many feet and they all do a different job for you. They certainly make life at the sewing machine more enjoyable and easier. Some of these feet come with your machine and your manual will have the information for you on what application they are used for. By taking the time to try these attachments for your sewing machine, you will find a whole new creative side to yourself, and you thought your machine was for sewing. I’d like to take you through some of these sewing feet and what they can do. Your machine comes with the straight stitch foot and a zig-zag foot, these tow are normally standard. Some machines come with other feet as standard to that make or model and then there are the extra feet you can purchase to do those wonderful sewing jobs for you. I’d like to take you through these feet. These are the names as I know them, some of these may have different names with different manufacturers but the stitches they will be the same. Braid Foot The narrow and wide braid feet both have a hook on the front of the foot slip and a narrow tunneled groove underneath. It is used when you want to add cording or braid. The cord is laced through the hook and under the foot slip into the tunneled groove. There is a braid-guide attachment you can attach near the presser foot shank to keep the braid or cord taut while stitching, no tangles. Buttonhole Foot The buttonhole foot can be recognized by it’s rectangle shaped foot with thin extensions at either end, a raised square on top of the foot and small grooves on the bottom of the foot. It is similar to some embroidery feet. It makes sewing buttonholes very easy. Eyelet Foot I don’t know how many of you would want to be sewing eyelets but if that is what you want to do then this is the foot for you. It is a very specialized foot. It is a H-shaped flat foot, has a small cylinder shape attachment to the top surface. Gathering Foot This one is very handy. It is a small L-shaped foot with a slot on the bottom side. The bottom of the foot is higher at the front than the back. This causes the foot to rock when attached to the machine. This rocking creates the gathers. You set the stitch length at a higher setting to get more gathers and a normal setting to get less gathers. If you are gathering a single piece of fabric, feed the fabric under the foot or use the side slot to stitch one piece of fabric to another. Narrow Bias Binder Foot This foot has a coned shaped, slotted cylinder on the topside of the foot. It folds and applies the bias binding in one step. Open-Toe Embroidery Foot This foot will give you a view of your work so you can see the satin or decorative stitches between the widely spaced toes. There are grooves underneath to allow room for the stitches. Pintuck Foot This is a flat foot with grooves cut in underneath. This foot, used with a double needle will pinch and stitch lines of straight stitching in narrow raised patterns. The number of grooves will determine the spacing between the lines and the number of pattern lines. The three groove pintuck foot is used on heavier fabric or for wider designs and the for and five groove pintuck foot will be better on lightweight fabric or for narrower patterns. Rolled Hemming Foot If you want small double folded hems then this is the foot for you. Use it for medium to lightweight fabric. The groove on the bottom of the foot is the width of the finished hem. You will be able to sew hems with a straight stitch, zig-zag or decorative stitch. This has so many uses, think of lingerie, ruffles, curtains, scarves, table linen, wonderful. Roller Foot This is a very handy foot, the metal roller feeds the fabric and keeps it from stretching and bunching, great for thick, heavier fabric and fabric with a nap. Often called an even feed foot. Ruffler Foot This is a large foot with many components and you use it to evenly space ruffles and pleats. If you want to ruffle bigger jobs like curtains, skirts, home decor items then this foot will help enormously. Teflon Foot This foot is coated in teflon and we all know teflon is non-stick so this foot will stop those difficult fabrics like leather, suede or textured fabric. It allows the fabric to glide under rather than being fed. You can get it as a zig-zg or a straight stitch foot. Walking Foot This foot has teeth rather than a roller to feed the fabric evenly. Welding Foot This has two narrow claw like prongs instead of a small hole in the middle and is used for straight stitching close to the edge of a hem or seam Zipper Foot This is one of the best feet ever made for sewing machines, it looks like a straight stitch foot cut in half and then the outside edges joined in the center. well, that is the more common types of the sewing machine feet available. Most of these would be available for most machines on the market today. If you intend to do special sewing jobs then investing in the foot for that particular job could save you so much time. Planting Trees and Shrubs

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

By Paul Burke How well your new tree or shrub does is dependent on planting your new addition to your landscape properly. By using the following steps you will go a long way in ensuring the future health of your new tree or shrub. STEP 1: Choose the right plant for the right location. Ensure soil, moisture, and shade requirements match the plant you have chosen STEP 2: Care for the plant before planting. Keep the tree or shrub cool and moist as well as shaded. When handling the root ball, be careful. STEP 3: Ensure the removal of all wires, labels, etc from the plants stem. STEP 4: Dig your hole as wide as possible. The hole you use for your new tree or shrub should be at least 3 times the diameter of the root ball. Make the hole saucer-shaped and as deep as the root ball is high. Make sure the root collar is level or just above the surrounding soil. STEP 5: Remove wire baskets, burlap, or pot from the root ball. By removing these materials you minimize root system disturbances. If you find it difficult to remove the burlap, cut and peel it back for better watering. STEP 6: Use soil from the hole you dug. Do not mix in fertilizer, sand or any organic material such as peat moss. STEP 7: Once the new tree or shrub has been planted in the hole and back-filled using only soil removed from the hole, you can prune any broken or dead branches. Because the tree or shrub is so young do not cut back any of the health branches to reduce the crown. STEP 8: Water the root zone once a week for the 1st year or two. Do not over-water. The majority of new tree or shrub roots are in the 1st 6-12 inches of soil. Water slowly to decrease the amount of runoff. By watering deeply and infrequently you will encourage deep root development which will aid in stability and strength in later years. STEP 9: Aside from watering, the next most important thing you can do for your new tree or shrub is to apply an organic mulch such as wood chips, grass clippings or tree bark. This mulch reduces compaction, aids in moisture retention, and helps keep unwanted weeds from utilizing the bare space beneath the tree. Use a circle of mulch approximately 3 times the size of the root ball and increase this as the tree grows. By following these steps you will help ensure a good start for the newest additions to your landscape. Paul is a Certified Pesticide Applicator in the province of Alberta, Canada. Halfway Through Summer - Are We Having Fun Yet

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

By Bonnie Carrier Today is Thursday the 23rd of June and were almost halfway through the summer can you believe it. It seem to me that you wait and wait to get past the winter (at least here in the Northeast) then some years a wet soggy spring and finally your rewarded with sunny warm weather. Once it arrives you run madly around getting your yard ready for outdoor activities. You dash off the the local nursery to purchase a few new perennials (that you hope will grow) several varieties of annuals to fill up the pots for the steps, Oh yes and dont forget the hanging baskets. Now you dont mind paying (in some cases) ridicules prices for these beautiful flowers after youve waited it seems like forever just to be able to put them out and admire them. Im sure that most of you (this author is not included here) have already gotten your yard, gardens, patios and decks spruced up and have already been enjoying this wonderful summer season. No, well if you happen to be a late starter (this is where yours truly comes in) its not to late. In fact here is my list, maybe you can use it to get ready and start having fun. Lets see, Saturday morning arrives, time to check the to-do list. 1) Drag out pots and planters, clean then fill with potting mix (you did remember to pick up some right) then plant annuals. 2) Weed and prepare ground for new Perennials 3) Put up hangers on porch and put shepherds hooks into ground, hang up hanging baskets. 4) Get patio furniture out of storage and clean off. 5) Clean up spilled dirt (from annual planting) put away tools used for hangers. 6) Place pots of flowers on steps. 7) Water everything, roll hose back up. 8) Sweep patio or deck, place furniture around, put up planters. 9) Sweep once more. 10) Mow the lawn. 11) Make dinner, fire-up the grill Hold up a minute, need to check and see if Ive started relaxing and having fun yet. Well so goes the life of a Last Minute Lucy. Of course all of us late starters dont really seem to mind, after the initial marathon weekend getting everything in order (ever notice we cant seem to spread things out) we now have the whole summer to sit back and enjoy all our hard work. Oh, did I mentioned its about halfway through summer, sorry just thought Id remind everyone once again. I personally do not care how long it takes me to get things done outside, just having the opportunity to be outside in the warm sunshine is enough (maybe thats why I take so long, it give me more excuses to be out there). So enjoy all those outside chores and activities, before you know it, it will be time for fall clean up. That by the way is only about three months away, so you might what to start thinking about it now. This article is shareware. Motorola Razr - Its Origins

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Allison_Thompson]Allison Thompson The first version of this phone to be released in November 2004 was the V3 and which has now become the most popular of the range. This 13.9mm thick, clamshell camera phone was originally thought to be an exclusive fashion phone and certainly came with a high price tag. However, by 2005 the phone had entered the mass market as a mid priced phone and then by February 2006 it was being hailed as an upper end budget phone. The two most prominent features of the Motorola Razr are not only its thinness but also the position of the internal antenna being placed at the base of the phone below the mouthpiece. Research carried out during July 2005 by Motorola reported that the V3 was now the most popular style of clamshell phone in Europe, which it seems to owe almost entirely to the phones distinctive look and its size being so small. It was also one of the first phones available on the market with had a 2.2 inch (diagonal) LCD screen which is able to support 262,000 different colours. Then in November 2005 Motorola released the CDMA version called the Razr V3c and although the CDMA version is slightly thicker (because of the bulge around the camera lens), it included more memory (30 MB) and higher resolution camera (1.3 megapixel) and the CDMA20001xEVDO support. But unfortunately the 2.2 inch internal screen on the V3c can only support 65,356 colours, and its weight has risen from 95g to 99g. Then Motorola announced to the world that the V1150 was now to be called the Razr V3x. This phone includes 2 cameras and can support microSD. However, Motorola confirmed that the Razr V3x is not a successor to the V1150 it just has simply been renamed. Unfortunately Motorola have also confirmed that this version of the phone will not be available in the US. By July 2006 Motorola were happy to announce that they had the 50,000,000 Razr, which now made it the most popular of any cell phone available today. Marketing Brain Trust

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

By Paul Lemberg Rest assured that no matter how smart you are, you do not know everything about marketing. You don’t even know anything about marketing your product! You can’t figure everything out yourself, or see all the angles, or provide every bit of critical thinking. The solution? Create a marketing brain trust. Use the mastermind principle which says more brainpower brought to bear on an issue means more ideas and greater insight. Gather together a mixed bag of thoughtful, intelligent people who have an interest in helping you create breakthroughs in your enterprise. Adding brains to the brain trust produces non-linear results. Breakthrough results. Unreasonable results. Quantum Results. Because of the interactions among several people’s ideas bouncing off each other, the increased thinking- effectiveness can be multiplicative or even exponential. Enroll people into your marketing brain trust. Find people who have a vested interest in your success, or the success of your business. You can’t have a great brain trust unless people are truly committed. Your marketing brain trust can take different forms. If you want it to be official (and tax deductible) call it your Board of Advisors. Make it the board’s job to help you pilot your venture. You can even ask each advisor to be accountable for a specific segment of information or knowledge, but their real role and true benefit is to work as a group - to release the mind synergy. Meet periodically - monthly or quarterly - in person, or by phone, video conference, the Internet, or some combination. Check in with individual brain trust members between meetings. Keep them up to date on your progress; let them know how you are doing. You can pay your advisors and honorarium, or give them options on future ownership. A different approach is to form a marketing mastermind group. This is less formal and less committed than a Board of Advisors. Gather the mastermind members together periodically and provide refreshments - dinner or perhaps just a case of wine. (I find that red is better than white for masterminding.) Entertain them while they ponder specific issues with you. The job of the marketing mastermind is to bring alternate perspectives, help you create ideas, and in general, think things through in a way that looks differently than you would yourself. Let your master-minders know topics in advance, and provide them with appropriate backgrounders to get their creative juices flowing. You may also ask them to suggest topics based on what they already know about you. Try to make this group diverse. Your mastermind members need not be familiar with your particular business; in fact they need not be business people at all. Get artists, scientists, musicians, technologists, writers, humanitarians, hackers, theologians, philosophers, and psychologists - all sorts of creative thinkers, along with marketers, entrepreneurs and executives, to complement those members familiar with your specific business. You should limit the size of your mastermind group to no more than ten or twelve people, although you can get started with as few as three or four. Really, any number is going to be an increase over just you. Lastly, create a simple Roster of Marketing Brains. This is the network of friends, associates and acquaintance you can call on who are expert thinkers in specific areas, and might have some vested interest in seeing you succeed. Some of these people you barter with, some do it because they think what you are up to is cool and going to make a difference in the world, some of them you pay as consultants. You may never gather all these people together at once, but assemble them in ad-hoc groups to tackle whatever issues are at hand. These three marketing brain trust formats are not mutually exclusive; you might have them all. After all, the when it comes to creative minds, the more the merrier. — Special Requirements for Reprint: We ask only that you include Pauls name and resource box, and keep all hyperlinks as live links. Mobile Phones

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Alex_Seymour]Alex Seymour The mobile phone market is very competitive, arguably more so now that the majority of people who want or need a mobile phone have one. This means that companies want to target consumers to switch to their network. This can work in our favour as there are many companies wanting our business and prepared to offer various goodies in exchange for our money. Work out your tariff first The most important thing to work out before buying a mobile phone or switching your current mobile phone is to work out what do you really need? It is important to work out what the correct package should be for you as having the wrong one can seriously cost you money and is a waste straight into the pockets of the company. First of all you need to work out how much you will use your mobile phone. This will help allow you to find the cheapest tariff which will match your usage and need of your mobile phone. This can be based on how much usage you have made of your present mobile phone, but also think ahead to estimate how many calls you will or may make in the future. The tariff is the setting of the manufacturer. This will set the costs of your calling from your mobile phone and number of free minutes. However it is the retailer who sets the prices and this can vary with each retailer even though the tariff is the same. The key is knowing which tariff matches your usage. Then you can compare prices and find the cheapest for you. Are you prepared to switch your network if necessary? If you find your true tariff is different to what you have at the moment with your present mobile phone, then you can save money by using this new tariff without having to change networks. Ensure your package allows you to call mobiles on other networks in your deals with them. You can try threatening to leave your present supplier if you can find a better deal elsewhere. Sometimes this works if you are fully prepared and have all your research and prices in front of you when you call your mobile phone company to complain, but not always, so be prepared for all questions, that company will not give you up easily so play on their fears and grab what you can from them which suits you, and you may not get a second chance to impress. If you try this a few weeks before your contract ends, this may be the best time to negotiate with them. Try to stick to as short a contract as possible if this comes up. If you are offered a discount, add up all the prices to ensure that the amount you will pay in total is good for you. If you are unsure, ask them for a total cost before signing up to anything. Do not sign up to anything unless you are happy and understand everything you are agreeing to, especially if you will be locked into a contract (a minimum of 1 year, perhaps more.). Then compare companies to get the cheapest price for the same tariff As prices vary according to each retailer, a bit of research is needed to find out which retailer has the cheapest price for your tariff. Sometimes the smaller retailer will be cheaper than the major one, it depends on what is available. Try E2save and Dialaphone to start off with as they may have cheaper deals to combat the muscle power of the big guns. There is no harm in trying the major players such as Carphonewarehouse, Phones4U and The Link since they will be keen to gain your custom too. You have the power as the consumer to play the companies by comparing prices over the Internet and showing them the prices of their competitors and asking them to beat it. Calling from mobile phones to landlines Remember it is far more expensive to call a mobile from a landline than a landline from a mobile. Try to ring from a mobile to a landline whenever this situation occurs, or tell each other this when calling. Try to use up all of your free minutes allocated with your mobile phone deal to make full use of your benefits with your mobile phone. Calling mobile phone to mobile phone is very expensive and should be a last resort if needing to use a telephone. Questions to ask: Make sure you properly research as many mobile phones packages as possible before you purchase anything and do not buy the first package you see. Find out what mobile phone packages exist and which would suit you best eg pay as you go? For emergency use only? Contract? Will you be making a lot of mobile phone calls to a landline? Or to another mobile? What time of day will you be using your phone? Having a rough idea of what you will want the mobile phone for before you use it could make a difference on the package you eventually purchase (and getting hold of deals which mobile phone providers would not like you to know about). Themed Wedding Favors and Bridal Shower Favors

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

By Joe Palladino Tying wedding party favors to a theme can make choosing wedding favors easier. Picking the perfect wedding party favors can be a difficult task, but it doesn’t have to be. You know that the wedding party favors are important because they express your appreciation to your guests for coming to your wedding. These reception favors are just a little gift that lets your guests know they are important to you. To make choosing these important items easier you can implement a theme that will help you narrow down the never-ending list of favor choices. When these guest favors are tied to a theme it is very easy to pick the out. Wedding party favors that are tied to the overall theme of the wedding are one way to go. You may not have a specific theme, but think about the other aspects of your wedding - Are things elegant? romantic? traditional? When you can identify what angle you are going it is then simple to choose good favors. For an elegant wedding you might choose mini wine glasses coupled with a mini bottle of wine. A romantic favor could be a chocolate rose set in a small vase. The traditional favor is along the lines of placecard holders or candles. Tying your wedding party favors to your wedding theme will allow you to choose unique wedding favors that fit in with the atmosphere you’ve created. Some couples may like to express their personalities through their wedding favors. For the golfer you could offer wedding golf tees with chocolate golf balls. The more daring bride and groom may wish to provide temporary tattoos that showcase your names and wedding date. Poker enthusiasts can offer mini decks of cards. Another way to go is to write poems or favorite quotes on colored paper, roll it up and secure with a fake, plastic wedding ring. Tying your wedding party favors to your personalities makes the favors seem more personal to your guests. Another popular method of choosing wedding party favors is to include them as part of the wedding or bridal shower reception decorations. You can have a breakaway centerpiece, which is a centerpiece made up of smaller pieces that can be easily taken by the guests at the end of the reception. These centerpieces usually are small wrapped gifts, candles or mini vases with flowers. You can use your own creative flair to put together nice centerpieces. Mini salt and pepper shakers can be provided for each guest to use during the dinner and then take home. If you are looking to preserve table space you can wrap the gifts and hang them with ribbons on the chairs. Using favors as part of the decorations will help you to save time and money. Tying your unique wedding favors into your wedding decor helps to keep things united and make it easier for you. There are many different items to choose from, so if you have some sort of wedding plan before shopping it will save large amounts of time. Remember that this is your gift to your party guests and it should be nice, but that doesn’t mean you have to spend forever choosing them.
